Faith Ringgold Artist Monthly for October

Objective: Students will conduct an artist study on Faith Ringgold.

Directions:

1.      View artwork “The American People Series #19: US Postage Commemorating the Advent of Black Power” 1967. 

a.    Artwork can be found on Mrs. Bellamy’s Google site at www.tinyurl.com/BellamySpace. Go to Computer Graphics 1>Artist Monthly 

2.      Complete the Art Historical and Critical Analysis sheet on your selected artwork. (20 points)

3.      Using a “Main Ideal Storyboard” sketch three main ideas of the artwork, write what those main ideas are under each sketch.  (20 points)

4.      Write an Art Criticism explaining your interpretation of the meaning of the artwork. (use your own paper)

a.    In your criticism describe the artwork, (include the name of the work, date created, and materials used).

b.    Analysis how the artwork uses the elements and principles of design.

c.    Last interpret what is Diego Rivera trying to communicate through his art.

d.    Judge is the work successful; explain what aspect of the work makes it successful.  (40 points)

e.    Use the Discussion Canvas link to type your criticism. (Spelling and grammar counts)

5.      All complete works are due By Friday October 10, 2014 (A-Day) and October 13, 2014 (B-Day)

Criticism 2

Assignment: Typography Portrait

• 1. Open the presentation link (students will use 2 slides) Typography Critique

  2. Slide one copy paste your artist statement about your portrait design. 

     1. What were you trying to accomplish by your design?

     2. What is the message in your text on your portrait?

     3. What aspect were successful and what aspect were not?

     4. What would you change thin the future?

  3. Copy your jpeg image of your portrait to the presentation to the presentation.

  4. Save presentation.

Re-Sizing 

Google Sites provides some options for picture resizing. But if your picture is still too large, a free program toresize it is XNVIEW fromhttp://www.xnview.com. 

1. Open your picture. 

2. Use the magnifying glass to get it to the size you want on your web page. 

3. Go to Image, Resize and put the percentage from the bottom in the Width/Height fields. 

4. Select File, Save As and save the new picture

Assignment: Life is Better with Art in it.

Student Reflection:

Write a self critique answering the following questions about your finished artwork. All answers should be in an essay format.

1. Reflecting on the rendering process what problems did you experience while rendering your painting? In which ways did you overcome these problems? Explain your design processes and purpose of your technique.

2. Reflecting on the pencil tool illustration technique, how did you overcome any designing problems? Support your answer with a description of the techniques used.
