Faith Ringgold Artist Monthly for October
Objective: Students will conduct an artist study on Faith Ringgold.
Directions:
1. View artwork “The American People Series #19: US Postage Commemorating the Advent of Black Power” 1967.
a. Artwork can be found on Mrs. Bellamy’s Google site at www.tinyurl.com/BellamySpace. Go to Computer Graphics 1>Artist Monthly
2. Complete the Art Historical and Critical Analysis sheet on your selected artwork. (20 points)
3. Using a “Main Ideal Storyboard” sketch three main ideas of the artwork, write what those main ideas are under each sketch. (20 points)
4. Write an Art Criticism explaining your interpretation of the meaning of the artwork. (use your own paper)
a. In your criticism describe the artwork, (include the name of the work, date created, and materials used).
b. Analysis how the artwork uses the elements and principles of design.
c. Last interpret what is Diego Rivera trying to communicate through his art.
d. Judge is the work successful; explain what aspect of the work makes it successful. (40 points)
e. Use the Discussion Canvas link to type your criticism. (Spelling and grammar counts)
5. All complete works are due By Friday October 10, 2014 (A-Day) and October 13, 2014 (B-Day)

Earnie Barnes
Objective:
Students will learn about artist Earnie Barnes and his artwork.
Students will write an art criticism on selected pieces of Earnie Barnes artwork to identify the meaning, mood, and aesthetic quality of the artwork, while using the Feldsmen method of art criticism.

Objective: Students will conduct an artist of the Month study on Diego Rivera.
Directions:
1. View the selected artworks by Diego Rivera.
Group 1: Ballad of the Revolution
Group 2: Flower Seller 1942
Group 3: Peasants
Group 4: Agrarian Leader Zapata
2. Complete the Art Historical and Critical Analysis sheet on your selected artwork. (20 points)
3. In your sketchbooks sketch out two main ideas of the artwork, write what those main ideas are under each sketch. (20 points)
4. Research information about the paint and add the notes to your sketchbook.
