Silver Dolphin (Project 2)
Read the directions for the Silver Dolphin Assignment.
Objective: Students will create a composition from an interpretive passage.
“I knew we were going to have a wonderful cruise experience the minute I stepped onto our cruise ship, the Silver Dolphin. Okay, we had glimmers of the fantastic cruise ahead of us from the moment we saw the pictures of the ship in a magazine. I was ecstatic. This is one elegant boat with its sleek, swept back design, triple decks and large observation lounge at the top. The silver railings around each deck seem to run from end to end. The best way to describe the color of the ship is that it’s shades of medium and light gray. There are lots of windows, oops, I mean portholes. There are two rows of round portholes on the side of the hull alone. What’s interesting though, is the shape of the portholes on the above decks. The first deck has arc shape portholes, the second deck has square portholes and the third deck has hexagonal ones. I love the flags that run on a line from the middle of the bow (that’s the front of the ship) to the observation deck. You can also tell that this is a safe ship. There must be a least ten lifeboats on each side. Some of the objects that make up the ship are just for utility, like the large anchor that protrudes from the side of the hull, the antennas, the lights, the large radar arm at the top and such, but even these really seem the blend in with the décor. What a boat. I’m sorry to see the vacation end.”
