AutoDesk Fusion 360 Project

Fusion 360 Project: Due Dec. 15th

We are fortunate to have a number of students who are experienced with CAD as part of this year's team. However, we do have some novices that we will also be getting up to speed. As a result there are 2 different CAD assignments. You need only complete 1 for credit in this class.

• If you are a veteran rover student, or a student who has taken CAD/CAM, Intro./Advanced Engineering, or Robotics THIS SCHOOL YEAR you will complete the flange to CNC router project.
• If you are new to rover and not taken an Upper School engineering, robotics, or CAD/CAM class THIS SCHOOL YEAR you will complete the Caster Project

Submitting your assignment: (all students)

1. The fusion file must be placed in the "Students Work" folder inside the "2018 Rover Files folder"
2. Make sure your name is include in the file name and notes which project you completed.
   • Example: Makins Caster or Cribbs Gear
3. A 2D drawing file of your work must also be attached as a PDF to the Fusion 360 page in your student notebook
4. A screen shot of your 3D CAD file must be embedded in your Fusion 360 web page.

Fusion 360 Software:

Visit Fusion 360 website to register for a free education account with AutoDesk. Once verification email is complete, return to the Fusion 360 website and download the software to any laptop/desktop you will be using to complete the project.

Brand New Fusion?

Students brand new to Fusion 360 need to watch the following seven tutorials

Caster Project: new rover students only

1. Go to the Caster Project Tutorial video site and watch the videos
2. Design your caster as you follow along!
3. Watch the Creating 2D drawings tutorials and create PDF drawings shown in the PDF at the bottom of this page.

Flange to CNC Router Project: veteran rover students and new rover students who have taken an engineering, robotics, or CAD/CAM THIS SCHOOL YEAR

1. Use the Model work-space to:
   1. Model the 2017 Wheel Flange
   2. Use Best Practice of creating new component to make sure all sketches and properties are nested inside component folder in browser tree.
   3. Use Parameters instead of numerical dimensions in your sketches, extrusions and circular patterns. Use the PDF file posted below for your dimensions.
2. Use the CAM work-space to:
   1. Create tool-path for CNC Router.
   2. Simulate CNC processes.
   3. Create a shopbot file using the proper post processor.
3. Cut Flange on CNC Router from available material. (Plywood, MDF, Masonite...
   1. Write your name on your Flange once it is cut
   2. Take a picture of it
   3. Upload that picture to your Fusion project page
