Optional Work Sample Practice Test
The problem will be worth 5 or 10 points depending on the level of difficulty and will be recorded as a test score. (The level of detail, difficulty, and numbers of steps make this task more like a project.)
This optional task will NOT replace the requirement of passing 1 work sample per month, but it will be averaged with your other tests scores (such as work samples or projects) for 40% of your grade.
While I am on Family Medical Leave, any student in Math Skills can complete a practice work samples even if they do not need to pass work samples. Solving a problem two ways and explaining hones your math reasoning and communication skills.
1) Select a medium to hard question from any review material on-line, print, or textbook, solve the problem using two DIFFERENT methods, and explain your thinking IN DETAIL. For full credit I expect students to communicate their reasoning skills in more depth than a regular passing work sample.
2) Cite your source, I need to know exactly where you found it.
3) Your may have help from friends, classmates, teachers, and staff members. Please list with whom you worked and how much help they gave you.
4) To receive full credit (or before receiving any credit) students will need to discuss the problem with a teacher or staff member to verify that they understand the work. (Sadly, some students just copy, so this step is needed.)
