5. Founders of Windsor

Windsor was first settled in 1634-35 by settlers from Plymouth Colony and from Dorchester in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Dorchester congregation lead by Reverends John Maverick and John Warham would likely have traveled along the Old Connecticut Path in 1635.Windsor was one of the three towns that joined together to form a colonial government under the Fundamental Orders. This was the first colony to receive its authority by consent of the people rather than from the King.Windsor's long and proud history is preserved and promoted by the Windsor Historical Society.
