General Rules for Cordless Drills

  1. Always wear proper safety glasses

  2. Adjust the variable speed according to what material you are drilling into. Faster for softwoods, slower for hardwoods.

  3. Forward switch spins the drill in a clockwise direction where the reverse switch spins counter clockwise.

  4. Always clamp material securely to the table before drilling or screwing. In operations where a table is not present, make sure material is properly supported.

  5. It is good practice to predrill a hole before screwing pieces of wood together. A predrill prevents the material from splitting.

  6. On some heavy duty drills, you will notice a hammer setting. This setting is used when drilling holes into very hard material such as concrete. When this setting is selected, the chuck doesn't only rotate but it moves in and out of the drill body like a jackhammer.

  7. Once a battery is dead, make sure to place it on charge. If not, once your new battery dies you will have no more power to finish the job.

  8. When installing a drill, add pressure to the backside of the drill. This will prevent the drill bit from stripping the screw.
