Waves

POWER STANDARD: Describe the interaction of energy and matter including the law of conservation of energy

 What are my learning targets?

 What are waves?

How am I going to learn them?

Wave Demonstrations/Wave Foldable- students will create a foldabile with illustrations depicting the basic parts of waves. Transverse wave, compressional wave, seismic wave, electromagnetic wave, mechanical wave

How will I know if I learned it?

I can get a C or better on the following assessment:

Waves Assessment

I will track my understanding through formative assessments along the way (practice quizzes)

Can I draw a transverse wave and label its parts?

Can I draw a compressional wave and label its parts?

Can I use math to calculate the speed, wavelength, and frequency of a wave using proper units?

What makes a standing wave?  List and describe 2 ways waves can bend?

Notes on Math with Waves- Students will practice calculating wavelength, frequency and speed of a wave.  wavelength, frequency, speed, period, amplitude

Waves Video/Questions

Wave Inquiry Stations-  Students will work in small groups to measure, discuss, and infer properties about waves.  The stations will include computer modeling, reading, drawing, and measuring wave properties by hand, have fun with sound!

Chapter 10 Reading Strategy/Reinforcement- waves wkst, practice problems, reading notes
