Codington's School Counseling Mission
The mission of Codington's comprehensive school counseling program is to educate and empower students in an engaging way, so as to help them survive and thrive socially, personally, emotionally, and academically.
My Counseling Philosophy
My philosophy as an elementary school counselor is to play an active and integral part in the lives of students, teachers, parents, school staff and administration, and the community. For this reason, I try to be both a leader and a team member who collaborates and communicates with all individuals influencing a child’s world. The foundation of this school counselor’s program includes and focuses in on the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students. For maximum effectiveness, this program will be developmental, preventative, and proactive in design. It must be continually evaluated and revamped to adhere to the changing and growing needs of the children, the school, and the community. Creative interventions consist of a variety of strategies, delivery methods, activities, and resources in align with school, state, and federal standards. This will maximize the scope of the counseling program, which will in turn, target each student’s individual and unique needs. These eclectic interventions are conducive to the various ethnic, cultural, sexual, and racial differences among students and staff. I must therefore be aware and sensitive to my own beliefs and capabilities surrounding such diversity in the school and community. Knowledge of the latest research-based interventions fitting the needs of the school and community must be sought out. This professional development is achieved by attending workshops, seminars, conferences, and classes. The school system should foster and promote such pursuance of professional growth. As a professional, I must abide by ethical and moral standards and guidelines, especially those outlined by the American School Counselor Association. Most important of all, I must be dedicated to and excited about entering into the wonderful and fulfilling environment that categorizes all elementary schools.
