Character Education

We here at Codington believe that children should not only excel academically, but personally and socially as well.

A huge part of my role in the school is to instill values, character, social skills, and self-esteem in ALL of the children.  Each month I choose a different theme and/or character trait that is agreed upon among staff based upon the school's needs.  I teach weekly in 2nd grade specials.  In all grades (K-5), I teach at least one lesson on that topic in each classroom per month.  The following are some of the character traits and/or themes that I focus on (each month's/year's themes are based on needs assessment data):

Responsibility at school; self-responsibility

Self-control / Self-regulation

Taking ownership

Using good judgment

Focus/attentiveness

Respect

Friendship skills

Gratitude/Generosity

Honesty/Trustworthiness

Peace/Conflict Resolution

Teamwork/Cooperation

Kindness

Digital Citizenship

Can-Do Kid Month (focusing on perseverance/diligence)
