"Codington Newbies" : A small group for NEW Codington students in grades 1-5 to share fears/anxieties of starting a new school with other new students, support one another, foster a common bond between each other, and learn all about what makes our school wonderful. This group meets in the beginning of the year (during the 1st quarter) for 4 sessions (once a week).
"Banana Splits" : A small group for students in grades 1-5 who have parents that are separated, divorced, or they live with only 1 parent. This group helps support kids experiencing these life changes, allows them to feel a sense of normalcy (in knowing they're not the only one), adapt to changes, and gain coping strategies to deal with changes/emotions effectively. This group meets throughout the school year, starting in September and ending in May. They will meet every other week for 30 minutes.
"Self-Controllers": For students in grades 1-5, this group is for students who need to learn the art of self-control, self-discipline, and taking responsibility for one's actions/choices. Students will learn: "I think things through before I do" and also "If I mess up, then I 'fess up." (while also learning to correct it or make things right). This group meets in the Fall and Spring months, once a week, for a total of 8 sessions. I'm running this group 2x this school year due to the high need and high participation numbers. Your child (if signed up) will be in either Fall or Spring.
"Bright Futures" : A small group for students in grades 1-5 who need a boost in their academic motivation and and self-direction for learning. This group meets during the middle part of the school year (winter months) , once a week, for a total of 8 sessions.
"Test De-Stress" : A small group for students in grades 3-5 who have test stress/anxiety and need to feel prepared for high-stakes tests. Children in this group will learn about test anxiety, general test-success skills, identify factors contributing to test stress, learn about the brain's reactive vs. proactive responses and neuroscience as it relates to anxiety/fear (and learning in general), learn coping skills, and develop a positive attitude/plan by changing negative stress (distress) into positive stress (eustress). This group meets for 8 sessions, 1x/week, in the Spring weeks leading up to the EOG (End of Grade test).
