Introduction:
The Silk Road, the 19th-century term used to refer to an ancient network of routes that connected East to West starting as early as 300 B.C.E. The Silk Road served as a highway that facilitated the exchange of products and ideologies. Stretching from the Mediterranean region in the West to the heart of China in the East, the 4,000-mile trade route was traveled by caravans, pilgrims, conquerors, armies, and missionaries for 1,500 years.
Today people are traveling these old trade routes, learning about the different cultures through tracing tea. We will be following their journey.
Project Introduction:
This is a project that is meant to introduce students to a wide variety of cultures and daily life of people along the historic Silk Road through the eyes of teens from other countries and cultures. Using video, audio and written interviews through the Tracing Tea project (http://tracingtea.com/) students collect and utilize information about teens and then create presentations in a variety of multimedia forms that compare/contrast their answers to the shared questions and experiences.
