News Segments

Welcome to the News Segments Project Unit. The goals of the unit are that students will learn video production techniques and the projects created will provide segments for the GMSTV News Program to broadcast. Students will be required to complete 2-3 news segments. Each segment may be aired on the GMSTV News. The live news program is viewed by the entire student body, staff and Graham community daily.

In today’s golden age of desktop video production and video content on sites such as YouTube, experience with video production is an important part of 21st century education and Graham Middle School has worked hard to provide this opportunity for all students.

Concepts Taught

Study of News Segment Genre

Pre-Production: Planning, topic selection, defining message, storyboarding, intro, conclusion

Production: Rule of thirds, shot types, audio, shot stability, lighting, interviewing techniques

Post-Production: Ingest, in/out points, timeline, split, trim, transitions, voice over, B-roll

Publishing: Compress and submit to GMSTV News for broadcast
