Parents/Guardians make the decision on whether or not their child has access to online resources provided by Monroe School District. Without consent, students will not have access to the District's digital resources and students must be given an alternative, equivalent assignment or assessment that does not require the use of digital resources.

They can make their decision by updating their information in Family Access or by returning the Online Digital Resources Permission Form (English, Pages 11-13 ) (Spanish, Pages 11-13) to the school's main office. Consent is obtained on an annual basis.

What happens if a parent/guardian does not provide consent?

Without parental consent, student accounts will be disabled after the temporary access period has ended. Student can regain access when parental consent has been granted.

Why must I gain parent/guardian consent before using Online Digital Resources that collect student data?

On July 1, 2016 the Washington State Legislature required that all schools comply with the requirements of the SUPER Act in addition to the Federal requirements contained in CIPA, COPPA, and FERPA. These requirements state that we must provide parents an opportunity to make a decision on how their child accesses digital resources.

What online resources are included when parents grant consent?

MSD's online digital resources for the 2018-19 school year include:

  • Active Directory
  • Google's G Suite for Education
  • Online Curriculum Systems: See Learning and Teaching's approved district materials and curriculum here.
  • Online Educational Websites, Apps, & Extensions: All other online resources that collect student data must be vetted and approved. Click here to see the 2018-19 MSD Vetted Resources list.

*Note* - Not all digital resources collect student data, if you have a question about a resource you wish to use, please reach out by emailing us or calling.
