Eligibility

GPA requirements for College Institute depends upon your unweighted, cumulative GPA. Seniors must have at least a 2.5, and juniors must have at least a 2.75.

Your eligibility for Dual Enrollment depends upon your Accuplacer score, or your SAT/ACT scores. If using your SAT scores, you must have received at least a 480 in English and a 530 in mathematics. If using your ACT scores, you must have received at least a 21 in both English and math.

For Accuplacer scores, you must have at least a 79 in reading comprehension, a 90 in sentence skills, and a 62 in elementary algebra as well as a 45 in college-level math.

If you find yourself ineligible for College Institute, consider being reviewed for the Alternative Placement Program (APP). APP is an alternative way for juniors to be accepted into Dual Enrollment when their SAT/ACT scores and/or GPA have made them ineligible. Students receiving an A or B in the final semester of the courses listed below will count as able to take classes with prerequisites for ENGL101 and/or READ120, and prerequisites for MATH 110/115/117. If you wish to take courses that require a higher math education such as engineering or computer science, you may still have to take the SAT/ACT to be eligible for a prerequisite of MATH 130.

The courses that APP applies to are as follows:

  • AP Language and Composition
  • Honors English 12
  • Modern World History (any level)
  • Algebra 2 (any level)

See DEPA/College Institute Coordinator for more details on APP.

Taking The Accuplacer Test

All students considering dual enrollment, jump start or early college programs should take the High School Accuplacer test after first completing the MC online application. Without completing the MC online application your test scores cannot be transferred to MC.

MC limits students taking their Accuplacer test to a maximum of two per year. The high school test scores are not transferred to MC unless they meet the minimum placement requirements. Thus students taking the high school Accuplacer are able to take the test multiple times if necessary.

Only the ESL written language Accuplacer test MUST be taken on Montgomery College campus. Arrangements to do so can be made with the DEPA / College Institute Coordinator.

All juniors and seniors are offered the High School Accuplacer test in the early fall and again in the spring. Sophomores can take the test by arrangement with the DEPA/College Institute Coordinator. If you have not already taken the Accuplacer or do not have your scores you should meet with the DEPA/College Institute Coordinator or see the Main Office to be placed on the test schedule.

If you have taken the Acccuplacer and do not know your scores meet with the DEPA/College Institute Coordinator. You can also use the chart below to interpret your placement scores.
