Legal Studies is unquestionably an opportunity to learn about institutions that influence YOUR life:
Do you plan to have a job one day?
To drive a car?
Are you aware that you pay taxes most times you purchase items from 7Eleven?
Laws and legal bodies influence how you do these things. When you're 18 you will be legally obliged to vote - so you should understand what voting means and the impact of your vote on the society in which you live. The day-to-day lives of you, your family and your friends will always be massively influenced by the actions of government, law-makers, police and the courts.
Congratulations on choosing a subject that will ensure you understand HOW your lives will be affected and what you can do in our democratic society to influence what law-makers do.
Please note that 2024 is the first year of the new Legal Studies Study Design, so any textbooks or study guides you may come across second-hand will unfortunately not be relevant to our study. The textbook we are using is the Oxford Legal Studies for VCE Units 3 and 4 (16th Edition)
Attached below, you will find the VCAA Legal Studies Study Design, materials handed out in Orientation classes, including the Holiday homework tasks and some articles that can be used as conversation starters
