My ESL classes are typically only 1 period a day and they seem to fly by. At the end of the lesson, I want some concrete reflection from the students similar to an exit ticket. My think tank serves that purpose. Students might write an example of a sentence with the target grammar skill. They might respond to an open ended questions about something we read. Some days, they rate themselves on how well they understood the lesson of the day. They simply put their initials on the post it and stick it in the think tank before leaving. On my really good days, I often incorporate the posts its in my lessons as quick formative assessments with color coding for various responses. Before, I leave for the day, I gather up the responses and use them to make any changes to my instruction for the following day.
