I am so honored to be the ESL teacher for Lloyd Road School. I have been working with ESL students for about 16 years and had the privilege of teaching all grades. I always love working with students from all around the world and learning about their cultures and language. I get to travel the world without leaving my classroom.
I am particularly interested in teaching students how to read fluently and truly comprehend what they read. I also believe strongly in preserving the rigor of the ESL classroom by combining language and content area objectives. Finally, I believe that culture and learning are intertwined and true multiculturalism should be naturally embedded in the the daily routines and curriculum of the classroom.
I teach two graduate course for Louisiana State University Shreveport: ESL 602: Linguistics for the ESL Classroom and ESL 604: ESL Curriculum and Multiculturalism. Through teaching these course, I continually research and implement the best practices for teaching English Language Learners. I have the amazing opportunity to interact with fellow educators from around the country and share ideas and strategies in a unique professional learning community.
I have my Bachelor's in Human Ecology. I obtained my Master's + 45 in Teaching English as a Second Language. I am a proud alumni of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I often return for football games! I taught in Memphis, TN for a decade primarily at Southwind Elementary where my ESL roster was always close to 100 students representing about a dozen languages! Southwind will always hold a special place in my heart!
I love traveling, going to the beach, reading, and spending time with my 4 year old son! We usually spend most of our summer days on the beach. I love watching Tennessee football as well! Go Vols!
