textile Design / Hangarau Papanga

Students in Textile Design use the design process to develop projects following their brief using fabric. They learn which textile is the best material for the brief and the attributes for the project they are making.

They learn the practical and safety aspects of Textile skills such as hand sewing, using the sewing machine, applied design techniques and cultural process - tikanga when working with flax. Some of the year 7-8 projects are:

• Felt Characters

• Pillowcases

• Appliqué 

• Stencilling

• Embroidery stitching

• Raranga - Flax weaving
