Healthy Snacks

Students will learn about different healthy snacks which can easily be made after school, at the weekends or after sport.

This programme includes learning to work safely in the kitchen, kitchen hygiene, using equipment, reading labels & packaging, storing food safely and making simple modifications to a recipe.

Towards the end of this unit students will make a variety of simple meals. At the conclusion of this unit, students will design and make their own healthy snack.

Seasonal Fruits & veges

Throughout this term students will learn to identify and use a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables in sweet and savoury dishes.

Students will create a variety of two-course balanced meals, plan for practice, manage time, evaluate their learning, understand the functions and properties of ingredients, use sensory attributes to describe the attributes of products, modify recipes, use herbs and spices to enhance a meal, and discover different ways to plate and present food.

To foster teamwork and cooperative skills students participate in Master Chef style Challenges: The Mystery Box and Invention Test. At the end of the term, teams of four either compete in a MasterChef challenge to showcase their understanding of seasonal fruits and vegetables by creating a tasty, colourful and well balanced 2 course meal; or collaborate in groups of four to develop a recipe that meets the needs of the family. Students then create a Food Bag with all the ingredients to cook their recipe at home.
