Resistant Materials /
Hangarau Rawa Okiko
In Resistant Materials students will solve real problems through the use of materials such as wood, metal and plastics. They will have the opportunity to evaluate existing products and develop their own skills and ideas throughout their time.
Block Bots
Students learn how to use a wide range of hand tools and machines within the workshop. They are introduced to world of 2D Design (CAD) and the laser cutter (CAM).
Clocks
This exciting project enables students to research different designers and eras. They complete their clock using the laser cutter in a style of their choice.
Jewellery
In this project students are asked to design and make different styled pieces of jewellery. By casting a design in pewter, enamelling on copper and using the 3D Printer, students show their creative side.
STEAM
Students work through a range of fun problem solving challenges. Working in teams they will undertake the challenge using a limited amount of resources. This is a great opportunity for students to show leadership, collaborate and communicate.
The Laser Cutter
3D Printers
2D Design is a drawing programme that is easy for students to grasp. They learn how to convert their images and designs from bitmap (images made up of dots) and Vectorise the image (a path plotted with points). 2D Design has the capability of converting drawings to Vector files. This enables the image or text to be ready for cutting on the Laser Cutter.
3D printing has enormous potential for our centre. The skills will be integrated within our programme so that students have the opportunity to discover this new creative learning technology. This is an exciting piece of equipment and we can't wait to see the students fully engaging with it.
