Food Bag Project: Y8

Year 8 students from Manaia View, Te Kura o Otangarei, Raurimu and Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Te Rawhitiroa had the opportunity to participate in the Food Bag (Tāku Pūtea Kai) project again this year. Students designed sustainable Food Bags for their whanau. Tasks included students analysing surveys; researching, testing and trialing recipes; seeking feedback from their peers; making changes to recipes; creating flowcharts and budgeting. This exciting process supported each team of students to make a final decision for the recipe for their Food Bags.

Two key focuses students learnt about were Sustainability, and the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables of different colours. Recipes needed to be able to be made without meat and include fruits and vegetables that were in season.

This project would not be possible if it was not for:

Whangarei Sunrise Rotary Club - a tremendous round of thanks goes to this club, not only for their financial support, but towards assisting with manpower on the day when bags are assembled.

Ray White - for their "We Can Help With That" donation. This provided financial support to cover the costs of each food bag.

Countdown, Regent - for their donation of sustainable Bags for Good.
