What Is Umbrella?
Cisco Umbrella, formerly known as OpenDNS, is a content filtering service that checks the URL accessed by a user against a list of allowed or blocked URLs set up by an administrator.
I have forgotten my login password or my provided password does not work: what should I do?
First, try clicking on the "Forgot your password?" link. It will request the email address associated with an account. An email will be sent to that address with instructions on how to reset the password for the account tied to that email address. If this doesn't work, contact either the technical coordinator/Super User assigned to your network, who has the ability to reset your password, or contact Networkmaine directly at the help desk at 1-888-367-6756.
What are the IP addresses of the Umbrella nameservers?
208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 - this information can be found at the bottom of the page on your Umbrella dashboard as well.
What is the web address to get to Umbrella?
Who do I speak with if I have questions about my Umbrella setup?
Any questions about Umbrella should be directed toward the Networkmaine Support Center, which can be reached by email at support@msln.net or by telephone at 1-888-367-6756.
Can I make a rule for a sub-domain without having to block or allow access to an entire website?
Yes. A sub-domain can be entered in a block or allow rule the same way a full domain would be entered. For example, if you wanted to block access to "sites.google.com" without blocking access to "google.com", you could create a block rule for "sites.google.com" that would not affect the root Google page itself.
Why are images and videos on a page I've whitelisted not loading?
This can happen when a site is blocked as part of a content category list, but is allowed as part of a destination list. The category list will block the site as well as its content delivery networks (CDNs), which handle requests for the images and videos that appear on a page. If the root page is whitelisted but not the page's CDNs, the page will be accessible but won't show all of its content correctly.
Cisco has compiled a list of domains that should be whitelisted in this scenario: https://support.umbrella.com/hc/en-us/articles/115007472907-Block-Page-Bypass-or-Whitelist-Only-mode-Domains-to-Allow
I have a firewall or some other device doing DHCP for my network; how will this affect my Umbrella functionality?
Sites with firewalls or or other devices providing DHCP will need to configure those devices to use Umbrella's servers (seen above). Otherwise machines behind the device doing DHCP will not use the correct name servers and will effectively be able to browse the web completely unfiltered.
