The SMUD Solar Regatta is a nation wide event where schools, universities, and engineering companies compete in a solar powered boat race. The competition is held annually at Rancho Seco Recreational Area and features multiple events that test the limits of the solar boats' capabilities.
For our third year, we made modifications to the boat to make it lighter and faster. Here is our award winning video of our progress in February 2018 (which wasn't much since we were still arguing what modifications to perform)
We re-sanded our previous boat
Painted the bottom with a special paint (more hydrophillic than hydrophobic - pretty complex research as to which is better)
Made sure Alex would fit on it.
Silk-screened our own t-shirts!
Chopped up the previous boat and reused the bamboo as planters!
Peter is the Motor Boss - simply a wicked design!
Presented and presented and presented at the SMUD Solar Regatta
Won it all!
Here's Natalia doing an AWESOME job in the endurance race!
