I recommend that you register at www.scholarships.com , although you should create an email account specifically for this to avoid the marketing messages you will get from their partners. This clearinghouse site actually offers valuable information about funding; it will send you notifications about scholarships you should apply for based upon your profile. Don’t be put off by the marketing; they do that to pay to run the site.
I am detailing a number of scholarship applications below. This process is time-consuming, but consider this: If you receive one scholarship for $1000, and you spent 4 hours applying for these, you are essentially making $250/hour to apply. That is time well spent, and if you bookmark these pages, you will find even more resources as you progress through your education.
The Cobell Scholarship is more substantial funding for which you can apply. The Cobell Undergraduate Scholarship is designed to help Native students complete an undergraduate degree, and the awards vary depending on the cost of attendance for your school. Every year, this program has funds left over because so few students apply. Please don’t skip this one. The deadline for Fall is March 31 of this year. You’ll need to create an OASIS account on the site to apply. The site will give you step-by-step instructions, but if you get stuck, call me. https://cobellscholar.academicworks.com/opportunities/4789
The American Indian College Fund offers scholarships, as well. Their Full Circle Scholarship may be used at any accredited institution, and the application is available here: https://collegefund.org/student-resources/scholarships/scholarship-programs/
The American Indian Education Fund Undergraduate Scholarship is another great opportunity. That application is due before April 4, although you get an extra point if you apply before March 1st. Go to: http://www.nativepartnership.org/site/PageServer?pagename=aief_services_scholarship_undergrad . (the spaces in that address are underscores, not blanks. Click the link to go there).
Indian Health Service (I.H.S.) scholarships are primarily for individuals pursuing training for healthcare or other subjects needed by Indian health programs. Go to: https://www.ihs.gov/scholarship/scholarships/
The AISES organization offers a number of scholarships and other opportunities for students with STEM interests. I recommend checking into their scholarships too. Go to: http://www.aises.org/students/scholarships
Also, don’t forget about the Chahta Foundation scholarships. They are competitive scholarships but are for only Choctaw students. Go to: https://chahtafoundation.com/scholarships/#apply – the have one universal application that you can submit for all applicable scholarships.
You may call me at the numbers below if you’d rather discuss it by phone. I like to send it in writing since there are so many programs, but I’m happy to talk to you any time.
