Parent Teacher Conferences were well attended. I had 95% participation. Thank you for talking with me and being interested in your child’s education. I enjoyed meeting with you and please contact me through Remind or email if I can ever do anything to help you or your child. Also many of you attended the PTSO Trunk or Treat and Chili supper after conferences. I heard there was only a scoop or two of chili left by the end of the evening. The chili was delicious! PTSO does a lot for our school and students. I thank you for supporting this organization.

Veterans Day Program Lanesville Elementary has planned a Veterans Day Program for Friday November 11th. Veterans from our community are invited to attend the program. There will be a short video clip and a reading that explains the meaning of Veterans Day. The students will also sing for the veterans. After the program veterans and their families will be treated with donuts and coffee.

Santa Super Saturday is November 19th starting at 8:00 am. Please bring the family and eat breakfast, have your picture taken with Santa, students may shop for family members at Santa’s Shop (items are $2.00 or less) and adults may shop at the vendors’ booths. Children that buy items from Santa’s Shop will get items gift wrapped for free. I hope you can join us for this morning of Christmas fun sponsored by PTSO. (For more information check out the LES weekly newsletter, the PTSO website or facebook page.)

Clay Boats The class recently worked in small groups participating in a 4-Cs learning activity. The 4-C’s are critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. Each group was given a piece of clay and a container of water with the instruction, Work together and make the clay float. It was interesting to watch and listen to each group as they worked through this lesson. Some conversations included: this is what I do at the pool to make myself float, a boat can float and it has this kind of shape, let’s make the clay flat like a pancake, etc. It took about 15 minutes before a group got the clay to float. Please ask your child about this learning activity. It was wet, messy, and fun!
