Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to the start of a new school year. This year will be a busy and productive one filled with learning activities, electronic field trips, Smartboard lessons, field trips, workstations, one to one technology, eLearning Days and so much more.

Your child will be taught the following subjects: reading, phonics, grammar, handwriting, spelling, math, science, and social studies. Plus physical education with Mr. Garrett Blackman, music with Mr. Aaron Guernsey, art class with Mr. David Henke, and library with Ms. Martha Beckort.

Your child will have homework 2 - 4 times a week. Homework assignments could consist of a paper to work, a story to read, learning sight words, remedial work, spelling words, etc. An adult is to supervise homework assignments with help given when needed. The purpose of homework is to reinforce standards that are being taught and to keep you informed on what your child is learning at school. No homework will be given over the weekends. Please check out www.doe.in.gov to learn more about Indiana standards.

I will keep you informed on what is happening in my classroom through my class website and Remind. Your child will bring home his or her graded classroom papers each Thursday. Please look over these papers with your child. This will keep you updated on the standards being taught and how your child is achieving at school. Please check your child’s Harmony account frequently to see grades.

Your child may bring a snack to school each day for our afternoon break. Healthy snacks like dry cereal, apple slices, animal crackers, pretzels, etc. are welcomed. No sugary snacks allowed. Water may also be brought to school in a leak proof container.

If your child’s normal dismissal routine changes anytime this school year, please fill out a Change in Transportation Notice and send it to school. This form is on the school website www.lanesville.k12.in.us. Please note every Friday dismissal begins at 2:20 p.m.

Sincerely,

Shirley Bryant

P.S. Party Invitations

First graders are not allowed to hand out party invitations at school. This has caused hurt feelings in the past and is no longer allowed. The only exception to this is... if every child or all the boys or all the girls in the class receive an invitation. Your child may celebrate his or her birthday at school with a class treat (cupcakes or cookies). Please contact me through Remind to make arrangements for the birthday treat.
