Independent Setting

If you are interested in supplementing your current schedule with an online course, need a course that does not fit into your schedule, or simply want to see what online learning is all about, the independent setting is the option for you.

Upon entrance into the Virtual Learning Academy, all students meet with the academy coordinator to discuss individual strengths, short term and long term goals, including post-secondary planning. A credit map is created to help each student plan their path towards graduation and beyond. Courses are selected based upon student strengths, credit needs and goals, and a pacing guide is created to facilitate a path for success.

As a student within the Virtual Learning Academy, you have access to support and assistance through the academy coordinator including, but not limited to, 1:1 assistance with coursework, recommendations and referrals for future coursework aligned to your goals

How do I get scheduled in an online course?

Prior to moving forward at the school-level, it is strongly recommended for any student interested in online learning to begin this conversation at home with your parent or guardian. With that complete, the process for enrollment in an online course begins with the students' academic counselor.

  • Schedule a meeting with your academic counselor
    • Discuss your plan and reasoning for requesting an online course
  • Your counselor will walk you through the necessary paperwork
  • Upon approval from your counselor and parent/guardian, you will meet with the virtual learning coordinator to receive an introduction to the online program as well as to complete credit maps and pacing guides
