WELCOME!

Lakeland Union High School is excited to offer a well-rounded, personalized, virtual learning experience for our students through our Virtual Learning Academy.

The Lakeland Union High School Virtual Learning Academy was created to meet the diverse needs of our student population. Within the Virtual Learning Academy, we strive to provide each student with an individualized education plan matched to his or her interests as well as post-secondary goals. If you are interested in participating in the Virtual Learning Academy, we strongly recommend you explore the three opportunities for participation outlined below. Following this, please take a moment to complete the virtual learning questionnaire below to help determine if online courses and the LUHS Virtual Learning Academy are a fit for you.

Lakeland Union High School's Virtual Learning Academy offers three levels of participation to meet the unique needs of our students.

Level 1: Virtual Learning ClassroomOur Level 1 students are students working to complete an online course for the purpose of curricular enhancement or credit recovery. Students within the virtual learning classroom receive the support of the virtual learning coordinator via credit mapping, daily and weekly progress monitoring and pacing guides to ensure successful completion of individual goals. Further, the virtual learning coordinator works collaboratively with LUHS school counseling staff to align all selected courses to each student's graduation plan as well as their post-secondary goals. With physical placement in the virtual learning classroom, Level 1 students have the added structure and support of LUHS Virtual Learning Academy staff as well as specific time designated solely for their online work. The virtual learning classroom is a structured and supportive environment fully equipped to allow students to work at their own pace with the support of 1:1 teacher assistance.

Level 2: IndependentOur Level 2, Independent, students are individuals who have chosen to add a virtual course or courses to their full-time LUHS schedule. These may be students hoping to explore the online setting to better prepare for opportunities after high school; students working to advance their credits in preparation for a planned study abroad program, students who are missing certain credits towards their graduation plan or simply students hoping to expand their curricular opportunities here at Lakeland Union High School. Independent students receive the full support of the virtual learning coordinator outlined in Level 1, specifically: credit mapping, daily and weekly progress monitoring, pacing guides and alignment to graduation requirements and post-secondary goals. Just as the title "independent" implies, these students complete their coursework independent from the Virtual Learning Classroom setting. This work may be completed within a student's academic lab, during after school tutoring, or outside of school on nights and weekends. Students within the Independent setting receive additional support from the virtual learning coordinator on an "as needed" basis determined by the individual needs of the student.

Level 3: Virtual Our Level 3 students are those students who are completing all work towards their graduation requirements and post secondary prerequisites within online coursework. These students are not physically scheduled within the building for any part of their schedule. Receiving the same support as our Level 2: Independent students, virtual students also receive as a minimum, biweekly written communication from the virtual learning coordinator. With each virtual student working on an individual education plan, additional support, contact and outreach are determined between the student, student's family and the virtual learning coordinator upon the time of placement. This support can take the form of in-person meetings, increased written communication, phone conferencing and/or connecting with content area teachers within Lakeland Union High School.
