Virtual Placement

Placement within a 100% virtual program is not for everyone. In fact, it is a rare student who has the necessary skills and structure to find true academic success within the virtual setting. With that said, for reasons as diverse as our students, several individuals each year explore this opportunity as a way to fulfill their gradation requirements.

How do I request 100% virtual placement?

  • Parent/Guardian Approval
    • The first step when considering placement in the virtual program is to discuss this option with your parent or guardian. Parent approval is the first requirement for acceptance into Level 3 (Virtual Placement) of the Virtual Learning Academy.
  • Department Chair/Teacher Approval
    • The second step is to obtain support from one or more of your classroom teachers.
  • Academic Counselor Approval
    • In a meeting with your academic counselor, you will discuss whether virtual placement will allow you to meet your post-secondary goals. During this meeting, the following will be discussed:
      • Graduation plan including a list of courses required by your post-secondary institution or plan
      • Evidence of parent contact and approval
      • Counselor approval or denial of the request
      • With approval - Counselor referral to the virtual learning coordinator
  • Virtual Learning Coordinator Approval
    • The virtual learning coordinator will discuss the requirements for placement into the 100% virtual setting. During this meeting, the following will be discussed:
      • Review of graduation plan created with student and counselor
      • Communication expectations
      • Attendance expectations
      • Requirements for earning credit
      • Virtual learning coordinator approval or denial of the request
      • With approval - Virtual learning coordinator referral to Lakeland Union High School Administration
  • Administrative Approval
    • A meeting is required with the alternative education administrator in order to finalize any approval for 100% virtual placement.
