From personal finance and the nature of money to its use in different economic systems, students will examine the role money plays in our lives. Students will learn about the tradeoffs between risk and return present in different methods of saving and investing money as well as learning how to spend money wisely using credit responsibly. As part of the larger economic world, students will study the free enterprise system, stock market, elements of manufacturing, and the methods used by advertisers to encourage consumers to buy. At the culmination of the unit, students will participate in the Stock Market Game and/or start a business (real money! real risk!) here at the middle school to raise money for charity.
