Expectations:
· BE RESPECTFUL…of me, your classmates, your environment, materials, law/school rules and of course yourself…you get the picture.
· Be PREPARED for class!!
· Material needed includes assignments, books, paper, pen, attitude, and desire to succeed!
· You are expected to keep utilize a composition notebook which will stay in the class
· Be on time and ready to begin when the bell rings.
· Talk to me if you need help or have an issue…let’s not wait until a little problem becomes a major issue. Communication is key to success in life as well as in this class.
Classroom Management
Disrespectful behavior and/or disrupting the learning process will result in the following steps:
o A warning will be given – either verbally or in writing.
o The student and teacher will conduct an informal discussion and/or detention time will be required.
o Parents/guardians will be contacted (either by phone, e-mail, or letter) if the behavior warrants or if the behavior continues.
o Detentions may be given during lunch for the purpose of conducting a more formal conference between the student and teacher.
o Further contact (phone, e-mail, letter, and/or meeting) with a parent(s)/guardian(s) will occur. A counselor may be notified if the behavior warrants such an action.
o An Administrator will be contacted if the behavior continues, or is severe enough in nature.
HALL PASS:
YOU MUST HAVE A VALID STUDENT ID CARD TO LEAVE MY CLASS. PLEASE SIGN OUT WHEN YOU LEAVE AND RETURN TO MY CLASSROOM….
Attendance and Make-Up Work
It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to obtain, complete, and submit make-up work within the KHS guidelines.
Check Pass Often to determine which assignments/materials were assigned in your absence.
Course Description:
By taking this course students will be introduced to the story of America - its diverse people, its varied landscape, its democracy, and its great events-told through the voices of Americans from all walks of life. As the year goes on, students will be able to place historical events in context and will consider the events’ meaning for the future.

Unit 10: 1990’s and Beyond
Unit 11: September 11th and the Modern Era
Grading Scale
A = 100 to 90% B = 89 to 80% C = 79 to 70% D = 69 to 60% F = 59% or lower
Projected Course Points
Your grade will be calculated based on total points. Your ability to score points is dependent upon your completion of assignments, activities, and participation. Tentatively, the following items will be worth approximately the % listed below of total points. Please be cognizant of your grade in order to avoid a surprise final score.
Quizzes/Tests 35%
Assignments/Projects 50%
Participation/Cooperation Points 15%
Extra Credit Policy: No Extra Credit opportunities will be available this year.
Cell Phone/Electronic Device Policy
The policy for cell phones and other electronic devices are simple –
OUT OF SIGHT, OUT OF MIND
VIOLATION OF THE POLICY WILL RESULT IN THE FOLLOWING CONSEQUENCES:
1st offense – If I see/hear device – I will ask to put it away – WARNING
2nd offense – Device will be placed in my desk drawer until the end of the day and parent/guardian will be contacted
3rd offense – Parent/Guardian will be contacted and will need to pick up the device from an administrator in the office
Tardy Policy
A student is considered tardy the first TWENTY (20) minutes of the class period. After twenty minutes you will be marked absent. Tardy consequences are as follows:
Your first THREE Tardies are FREE (of in class consequence)… but after the third tardy, every time you are tardy it is a ZERO for that day. That includes days when there are Tests and Quizzes.
On your 3rd tardy your parents will be contacted by email or phone.
On your 4th tardy administration will be contacted and loss of credit in the class may be a possibility.
Late Work
Late work will be accepted according to teacher discretion/policies. Students must be utilizing intervention, or office hours to make up assignments. Assignments only within current units will be considered. Extenuating and uncontrollable circumstances will be considered only if students communicate directly with the teacher.
