Study, Planning, and Focus Tips

It can be difficult for a student to be able to focus and study in school, especially faced with a switch from in-person to at-home learning that can be more distracting or difficult. Finding a schedule or methods that work specifically for you isn't hard though, and with some help and effort, it becomes easier to study and to be engaged in school. In the following pages attached, there are general grade study tips as well as some how-to plan your day tips from fellow students and from research. Here are some helpful tips that will get you started:

  • Make a schedule for your school work/classes in a way that allows you to get school work done and able to have breaks and extra time in the day not working on assignments. Plan out what classes you'll do in order, when you'll take lunch or relaxing breaks, etc.

  • Check your class schedules and plan out assignments. Make it a priority or goal to finish certain assignments on specific days of the week rather than not doing any one day and cramming too many into the next day(s).

  • Limit your distractions. Find an area in your home where you feel the most motivated and concentrated so you can do your schoolwork or join zoom calls. Put other technology away for the meantime, turn off TVs, communicate with family to go to different rooms or not be distracting, etc. Going to a library is normally recommended although with covid only a one hour visit period is allowed which is not ideal since classes can take 5 or more hours a day. Work with what you have at home or maybe study and do classes at another student/friend's house if necessary.

  • Don't overwork yourself. Go by schedules and due dates and plan accordingly and do the assignments and classes that way, and if you feel confident to get ahead or do more work, then you should do so (as long as you are able to and don't have missing assignments or anything else to work on)!
