In January our focus will be:
Literacy: 1st graders will work with informative, realistic fiction, fantasy, and opinion text selections centered around "What do holidays and symbols tell about our country?" We will use text features to help us locate information and story structure to make and confirm inferences, predictions, central idea, and the author's point of view.

Math: We will wrap up our unit on measurement and finish up first grade math with double digit addition and subtraction strategies.

Social Studies: We will begin our economics unit, and students will work on earning and personal goal setting. Through a partnership with our community, Junior Achievement, students will learn about goods vs. services, wants vs. needs, and a basic understanding of economic principles.
Social/Emotional Learning: Our learning focuses on using kind words and kind acts. We continue to practice PRRS each day and continue to work on being a good citizen in our community and world.
