Social stories can be a very powerful tool for D/HH or Autism Spectrum students. It can make language in a story more relevant by inclulding pictures and using the first person perspective [so it's more easily internalized]. Social Stories aren't just tools for these students though - many students can bennefit from visual formats.
I like to include visuals in my lessons, especially if I can find pop-culture references, as I find that students better connect to them. Something I've found helpful is using comics or anime characters in my social stories or visual-presentation of lessons. One tool you can use, for a very simple Social Story or very simple, brief lesson, is the comic format. Here is a very basic comic maker: Anime Version & Regular Faces Version. You can use these for multiple lessons though. I imagine you could have student fill them out independently for writing a story. You could have fill-in-the-blank worksheets for vocabulary. You could even use this to have students write out [on one page] what they said that was a bad choice and [on a second page] what a nice thing they could say instead.
Kids today love comics, especially anime characters. My students lit up the first time I pulled out a sheet with these characters - I'm sure your student will find them enjoyable too! Hope you find these helpful!
