The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) has a lot of great resources for educators and families. I recently received, in a newsletter from them, a page they've put together with resources related to social justice and equity. They have some articles about implicit bias and privilege that I'm currently reading. These are topics that school staff has discussed previously, when team members share-out information from the district's "Diversity Expo," and I'm sure we'll continue to explore them this year with the expo coming up in October.
I consider it part of my job to continue to explore these topics, deepen my understanding, and to advocate for all students at our school. If you have additional articles you've liked, please share them with me! If it's one I've already read, I'll probably re-read it. (When I worked in DPS, the mental health department gave us time to read Robin DiAngelo's article on White Fragility. I've re-read it probably 5 or 6 times at this point [based on the different highlighter colors alone], and I always take away something new with each time I read it.) I'm always trying to learn and understand how to be a better advocate!
