Report Cards

Jackson R2 School District uses Standards-Based Reporting. For special areas,  such as music, our grading codes are as follows:
S- Satisfactory
U- Unsatisfactory
P- Progressing
NA- Not applicable/observed

 Music grades are given quarterly.

All grade levels are graded on the following areas:

MU1: Participates actively in music activities.
MU2: Explores and uses musical concepts.
MU3: Creates or expresses ideas through music.
MU4: Respects the music space, materials, and others.

Kindergarten big concepts: 

• Experience, demonstrate, and describe same and different sounds. (ex. loud/soft, high/low, fast/slow).

• Experience and demonstrate songs that use two notes (mi/sol or low/high), and use long/short sounds together.

• Use my voice in different ways: speak, whisper, sing, call, inner.

• Hold and play instruments.

• Learn about music from around the world, and talk about music that I hear.

• Perform a steady beat.

1st Grade big concepts: 

• Experience, demonstrate, and describe rhythmic concepts of quarter notes (ta), eighth-note pairs (ti-ti), and quarter rest (shh). 

• Experience and demonstrate songs that use three notes (mi/sol/la), and recognize when sounds move up, down, or stay the same.

• Sort percussion instruments and song sections by sight and sound.

• Hold and play instruments.

• Identify and respond with movement to changes in music, and describe the mood music makes me feel.

• Perform a steady beat and simple musical patterns.

2nd Grade big concepts: 

• Experience, demonstrate, and describe new rhythmic concepts of half notes (ta-ah), broken eighth-note pairs (ti-ti), and half rest (shh for two beats). 

• Experience and demonstrate songs that use five notes (do/re/mi/sol/la).

• Sort percussion instruments and song sections by sight and sound (wood, metal, skin, shaker).

• Hold and play instruments.

• Identify, describe, and respond with movement to changes in music, and describe the mood music makes me feel.

• Perform a steady beat and musical patterns.

3rd Grade big concepts: 

• Experience, demonstrate, and describe new rhythmic concepts of dotted half notes (ta-ah-ah) and sixteenth notes (tika-tika). 

• Experience and demonstrate songs that use seven notes (sol,/do/re/mi/sol/la/do').

• Sort orchestral instruments (woodwind, brass, percussion, string).

• Hold and play instruments, including the recorder.

• Identify, describe, and respond with movement to changes in music, and describe the mood music makes me feel.

• Perform a steady beat and more complex musical patterns.

4th Grade big concepts: 

• Experience, demonstrate, and describe new rhythmic concepts of whole notes (ta-ah-ah-ah), whole rests (shh-h-h-h), and syncopated rhythms (ta-ti-ta). 

• Experience and demonstrate songs that use the seven notes of the major scale (do/re/mi/fa/sol/la/ti/do').

• Identify orchestral instruments (woodwind, brass, percussion, string).

• Hold and play instruments, including more notes on the recorder.

• Identify, describe, and respond with movement to changes in music, and describe the mood music makes me feel.

• Perform a steady beat and more complex musical patterns.
