What do I need to know?

Weeks prior to each grade-level concert, students will be sent home with reminder slips of the date, time, and specific information about their concert. Information for upcoming concerts will also be in West Lane Elementary School's monthly newsletters! Each concert can have a different theme, so concert attire varies slightly between grade-level performances. That information will also be linked below as we approach the performances.

General Concert Attire Expectations

Concert/holiday-colored or themed shirts, polos, blouses, or dresses paired with any good-condition long pants, skirts, and opaque tights for skirts and dresses. Bare legs should be avoided. Any clean, good-condition, closed-toe shoes are preferred, but please avoid high heels as the students will stand for at least 30 minutes and walk up and down a set of risers.

It is not the intention that any family should have to buy a new outfit for a performance. Our concert themes usually have several colors and options that should fit most households' existing wardrobes. If there are concerns, please contact Mrs. Ellison.

Arrival

Our grade-level concerts vary in start times and will be performed in the West Lane Elementary gymnasium. Please have your child at West Lane Elementary at least 15 minutes prior to the start time on the night of your concert so that we have time to warm up vocally, fill any empty spots, send students to the bathroom, and get lined up ready to perform. The students, myself, and their classroom teachers will meet in their pod, so please direct your child that way upon your arrival.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to arrive early as seats are first come-first served, and parking around the building can be difficult when running late. Specific front-row seats are 'purchased' during our annual PTO Bingo night and auction, so please look for your family's reserved seats if you were the winner! You may park in either West Lane Elementary parking lots, and street parking is available on Oak St. and N. West Lane, and across the street at the Jackson Jr. High School when available.

Camera/Video

Taking pictures/videos of your child is encouraged as long as the camera is not a disruption to the program or other audience members.  Please save the flash setting for close-ups after the concert!

Attendance

Attendance at concerts is strongly encouraged; students are not required to attend their concerts to maintain a grade. However, each student contributes something unique to the class and ensemble, and anyone absent from the concert will be missed! As always, all West Lane Elementary students and families are invited to join us for the performances!

In the event of an illness, the student must have been present at school for at least half the day to perform with their class the night of their concert. Students with contagious illnesses or with fevers are encouraged to stay home; it is better to stay home and get better than to be sick on risers!

Please feel free to email me with any further questions about concert details!
