What do I need to know?

Concerts are performed at West Lane Elementary School in our gymnasium. A few weeks prior to each grade level concert, students will be sent home with reminder slips of the date, time, and specific information about their concert. Each concert can have a different theme, and so concert attire varies slightly between grade level performances. That information will also be linked below as we come closer to the performances.

General Concert Attire Expectations

Concert/holiday colored or themed shirt, polo, blouse, or dress paired with any good-condition long pants, skirt, and opaque tights for skirts and dresses. Bare legs should be avoided. Any clean, good condition, closed-toe shoes are preferred, but please avoid high heels as the students will stand for at least 30 minutes and walk up and down a set of risers.

It is not the intention that any family should have to buy a new outfit for a performance. Our concert themes usually have several colors and options that should fit most household's existing wardrobes. If there are concerns, please contact Mrs. Ellison.

Arrival

Our grade level concerts start either 6:00 or 7:00 pm in the West Lane Elementary gymnasium. Please have your child at West Lane Elementary a half hour before (5:30 or 6:30 pm, respectively) on the night of your concert so that you can find parking, and that we have time to warm up vocally, fill any empty spots, send students to the bathroom, and get lined up ready to perform. The students, myself, and their classroom teachers will usually meet in a pod or cafeteria, and I will have their specific instructions on your information pamphlet I send in advance.

Parents/Guardians are encouraged to arrive early as seats are first come-first served, and parking around the building can be difficult when running late. Certain front row seats are 'purchased' during our annual PTO Bingo night and auction, so please look for your family's reserved seats if you were the winner! Street parking is available on Oak St. and N. West Lane, the West Lane Elementary faculty parking/bus drop off, and across the street at the Jackson Jr. High School when available.

Camera/Video

Taking pictures/video of your child is encouraged as long as the camera is not a disruption to the program or other audience members. Please save the flash setting for close-ups after the concert!

Attendance

Attendance at concerts is strongly encouraged; students are not required to attend their concert to maintain a grade. However, each student contributes something unique to the class and ensemble, and anyone is absent from the concert will be missed! As always, all West Lane Elementary students and families are invited to join us for the performances!

In the event of an illness, the student needs to have been present at school at least half the day in order to perform with their class the night of their concert. Students with contagious illnesses or with fevers are encouraged to stay home; it is better to stay home and get better than to be sick on risers!

Please email me with any further questions regarding concert details!
