Advanced Energy MaterialsJoão Ferreira completed his master's degree in Engineering Physics at the University of Porto and is now pursuing a Ph.D. in the same field, focusing on seawater batteries. These sodium-based energy storage systems utilize seawater as an abundant active material for marine offshore applications. João's research involves developing the cathode using bio-waste-derived activated carbon electrocatalysts and optimizing the anode's performance through various configurations assembled in controlled environments. His work includes characterizing the developed materials using SEM/EBSD, FTIR-ATR, N2 adsorption, and Hg porosimetry techniques, followed by their application in battery cells for electrochemical characterization.
