The Teacher Growth, Supervision and Evaluation Policy 2.1.5 aims to ensure that each teacher's actions, judgments and decisions are in the best educational interests of students and support optimum learning. School authorities, Early Childhood Services (ECS) operators, superintendents, principals and teachers are responsible for facilitating quality improvement through each teacher's career-long professional growth.
The Board of Trustees of Horizon School Division believes that the summative evaluation is a judgmental process designed to facilitate decisions about the competence of a teacher for the purpose of tenure, promotion, transfer, certification, or termination. Policy GCN operates under the assumption that an evaluation process may be necessary or desired which respects the rights of the individual while generating the data for making well-informed and fair employment decisions. Additionally, one of the primary aims of the summative evaluation is to foster professional growth.
