Students take Medical Skills and Medical English classes in this CTE Pathway. In the summer following the courses, students have the opportunity to take the CNA course at the Health Occupations Center Adult School to earn their CNA certificate and get help with placement in their first healthcare job.Â
We apply health care knowledge and skills to patient care; learning about prevention, diagnosis, pathology, and treatment. We study academic health-related language and practice authentic patient interactions, medical terminology, create a personalized career roadmap and learn collaboration and teamwork skills. Medical skills include vital signs, CPR certification, splinting, sutures, first aid, dissections, CNA skills, patient communication skills, and medical ethics considerations. Students can earn ADL class credit. We enjoy field trips, professional guest speakers, hands-on experiences, and college and career preparation.
