Hello Simpsonville Elementary Students and Families-
I am so excited to be able to work with you and your child this school year! I just want to take this opportunity to share some information regarding Speech services during the school year.
- We will take the first couple of sessions to get to know each other or to get reacquainted. We will do this by completing questionnaires, sharing our experiences and by interviewing each other. I'm sure we will play a game or two as well :) !
- I will also have a few assignments for YOU to complete to help me get to know your child better. Don’t worry, you will not be graded on the assignments- but they will receive stickers (see below) when they return your homework! I will be sending home a link to a Google form to be completed- we will do some things paperless this year!
Our Motto this year is "Practice Makes Progress" -Of course this makes sense.... the more a child practices anything (sports, an instrument and of course, their Speech skills) the more progress you will see.
- I will be using a sticker reinforcement system this year. They can earn a sticker by practicing their homework with you and documenting it in their folder or Seesaw account. Students can also earn stickers by following the Speech Rules while in sessions. Lastly, they can earn stickers by their efforts during Speech activities. Once they accumulate 5 or 10 stickers (depending on how many days they attend Speech) they can redeem them for a prize from the prize box.
- Also, I will work closely with the classroom teachers to incorporate the classroom curriculum and themes into your child’s monthly speech activities.
As a parent, I understand how important it is for you to know what we are working on in therapy. I strongly believe in open communication and the team approach when working with your child. You are an important part of the team. I will provide practice activities and encourage you to work on it with your child as much as you can (again I am a parent and understand how hard it may be to complete each assignment).
Please let me know if you have any questions. You can call me (355-8315) or email me sforman@greenville.k12.sc.us anytime!
Best wishes for a great school year,
