How the Outcomes will be met, namely what resources will you need?
You will be supplied with a workbook:
Nelson Mathematics for Apprenticeship and Workplace 12
So if you are tech savvy, this is a no brainer so the Answer Key is here
You will gain NOTHING if you just copy and paste, but your goal is DEMONSTRATE how to arrive at the same answer as the provided one.
You will need to bring a pencil and a Basic Scientific Calculator for each class. All you have to look for is the buttons of SIN COS and TAN to know if is the the right calculator for you.
As a student who is preparing to go out into the world and be responsible citizens, you need to take responsibility for your actions. You need to figure out where you are successful, where you are having difficulties, ways to make things better, and learn from your mistakes. This philosophy will take place in this Math class as well. After each lesson has been taught and you have tried some questions on your own or with the assistance of others, you may be asked to evaluate your own learning. This could be in the form of a question or a self-reflection. Since this is to see what you understand and still need to understand, these daily “reflections” will NOT be for marks. The “self-reflect” sections of your workbook will be marked as quizzes. Other quizzes may take place throughout the course and will be used as marks for your final assessment in this class.
Furthermore, you will have the opportunity for rewrites. We all have bad days or come unprepared for what is in store for us.....we all deserve second chances. Second chances will be given to students as long as they approach the teacher immediately after receiving the results of the exam, explain their situation, and attend an extra help session with the teacher. There will be a deadline set (about one week of the first exam) for this help session as well as the rewrite date as determined by the teacher. If the student does not comply with these deadlines/restrictions, then they will not have another opportunity to rewrite their exam. Rewrite of assignments will only be considered for those students who handed in the assignment on time and showed that they had attempted the work but clearly did not understand it. Students will have the opportunity to do a maximum of 3 rewrites throughout the course UNLESS THEY RECEIVE A LOWER MARK ON THE SECOND EXAM. IN THIS CASE STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE CHOICE TO DO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: (1) KEEP THE SECOND MARK AND STILL HAVE TWO MORE REWRITES OR (2) LOSE ALL OPPORTUNITIES TO DO REWRITES FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE COURSE.
Class Expectations:
• You must come to class prepared---you need to bring your notebooks, textbook, calculator, and writing tools.
• You are expected to participate and behave in a mature and cooperative manner.
• All homework (Math and other classes) is to be done on your time. If you are found doing homework in this class when you are supposed to be doing other work, I will take and keep your homework (permanently).
• Cheating results in a zero for both you and the person you cheated from. No questions asked!
• If you are absent from a class you must see the teacher or your classmates to get the information missed. If you are absent the day of an exam then you are expected to write the first day you return back to the class. IT WILL BE ON YOUR PERSONAL TIME.
• Show some respect for your classmates and teachers. While the teacher is talking you are not. If your classmates are asking questions or explaining something to the class, you are listening and not talking.
• Use appropriate language in class especially when talking to other students and teachers.
There is no diploma Examination for this course.
Course Evaluation Breakdown:
YOUR FINAL MARK WILL BE ASSESSED BASED ON 60% OF YOUR CLASS EVALUATION WHICH WILL BE CALCULATED AS FOLLOWS:
