In Mathematics 10-3 you will be encouraged to develop positive attitudes and gain knowledge and skills through your own exploration of mathematical ideas—often with the help of study partners. As you work through this course, you will also be encouraged to make connections to what you already know from your personal experiences. Building on your own experiences will give you a solid base for your understanding of mathematics.

Binder with Lined Paper.
Course Content: Math 10-3 consists of 7 Chapters of Study:
Unit 1 – Unit Prices and Currency Exchange
Unit 2 – Earning Income
Unit 3A – Measuring in Imperial and Metric
Unit 3B – Unit Conversions of Linear, Volume, Mass and Temperature
Unit 4 – Perimeter, Area, Surface Area and Volume
Unit 5 – Angles (NEED GEOMETRY SET)
Unit 6 – Similar Polygons
Unit 7- Trigonometry
Assessment
The assessment will consist of:
40% Term Work – Daily in class assignments and chapter reviews found in the source workbook or handout.
40% Quizzes and Exams- These are found either in the source workbook or supplied by the teacher.
20% Final Exam - This is a final exam which is a summary of the skills and knowledge developed over the course of the semester.
Student Expectations:
To perform well in any class, students must be punctual and present at every class and consistently do their homework. Lateness is not tolerated. All students must have their own writing utensil, calculator, ruler, eraser, etc. Students will be given a 2-day notification for “most” quizzes and a week for chapter exams. Students will be permitted to write missed exam upon return of absence. It is the student’s responsibility to get caught up on any material covered in class, due to absences. If the student knows in advance of an absence, the student will need to catch up upon their return. Please keep in mind that prolonged periods of absence an inconsistent attendance greatly affects student success. It is imperative that the student be present for lessons and activities planned as they often difficult to recreate individual students. Simply completing an assignment does not mean that you are caught up. You will have missed participating in the learning process.
It is expected that students keep all materials in a binder, that has been given out in class in the form of handouts, notes, etc. and reviewing that they are reviewing material/completing all homework assignments. You must have all the material to study for quizzes and exams. Eating and drinking in class is not allowed. School policy on electronic devices will be adhered to.
Inappropriate behavior during activities will not be tolerated. If the student is misbehaving, they may compromise the safety of others and are interfering with the learning of others. If the student is asked to leave the task, it is their responsibility to make up missed work.
Office Hours: Additional assistance is provided during any lunch hour 11:30- 12:12. If you need to make arrangements to meet after school please let me know a day in advance to work around my schedule. You should take advantage of any extra help offered every Thursday during PLT (Personal Learning Time) Sessions.

1ST Incident – Your phone will be removed for the class by the teacher
2nd – Incident – Your phone will be removed for the day in the office
3rd – Incident – Your parents will be notified and an action plan will be taken
