I was appointed Principal of Glastonbury Jr.-Sr. High School in 1958. At that time the Glastonbury School System was undergoing a dramatic transformation under the leadership of the then Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Lawrence Paquin. In 1958, foreign languages were introduced in the elementary schools. Since high school teachers were also used at the elementary level, I had the task of scheduling them to enable them to get to the elementary schools. At the High School, Current Issues was added to the curriculum. At the junior high school level, Russian started in grade seven.

There were many other changes made to strengthen the program at the junior and senior high level. It was an exciting time to be Principal of Glastonbury High School at the beginning of Glastonbury’s growth as a school system of excellence.

During my tenure as principal, I had occasion to see nearly 8,000 students graduate from GHS. I often wonder what has become of them. They were such a talented group. It is my fervent hope and prayer that all my former students are happy and live productive lives.

During my years as Glastonbury High School Principal and Superintendent, the student population grew from 1300 to 2300 students. I have always been proud of the success of the thousands of graduates I have known. As the Superintendent of Schools, I continue to share in the pride of my successor, Matt Dunbar.

I truly enjoy hearing from past students, often through the "Ask the Superintendent" column on our district website. My wish for all former students is that they are successful and happy in life and that their education has helped in that pursuit.

GHS has a proud history and an exciting future. Academic excellence and outstanding co-curricular activities for all students are a hallmark of the school.

As principal, I was proud of the array of interesting and challenging electives and advanced college level classes provided by GHS. In our accreditation report, GHS was commended for our highly qualified, professional, and dedicated staff, for the extensive support provided through our math, writing and foreign language labs and tutors, for the depth of our student community service projects, and for the active engagement of students in clubs, sports, and activities after school hours. Our athletic teams excelled in regional and in statewide competitions.
