The slope of a line is a measure of the line's steepness, and is the rate at which y is changing with respect to x. Slope is defined numerically as the ratio of vertical change to horizontal change, often described as "rise over run." The slope of a horizontal line is zero because such a line has no vertical change. The slope of a vertical line is undefined because such a line has no horizontal change.
