Courses

BIOL 1230 Environmental Biology

A consideration of environmental issues and ecological processes for non-majors.

BIOL 1180 Principles Biology Lab

Laboratory survey of the basic biology of bacteria, protists, fungi, plants and animals.

BIOL 3133 Ecology and Evolution

Course further develops the principles of evolution and ecology for biology majors who have taken Principles I and II. The emphasis is on how evolutionarychange shapes organisms to meet ecological problems. Students will have a firmer understanding of how evolution and ecology interact to produce the diversity of organisms we see around us.

BIOL 4541 Invertebrate Zoology

A survey of the diversity and basic biology of the invertebrates. Emphasis is placed on adaptations responsible for the diversity and life history strategies of invertebrates, and identifications of locally important invertebrate groups.

BIOL 5547 Marine Ecology

Course stresses ecological processes and adaptations that act to structure coastal associations and permit their persistence through time. The course provides a background for students interested in research in the marine sciences. Students will learn to develop good statistical designs and use various techniques to collect data in marine ecology.

BIOL 7610 Communicating Science

This graduate seminar is designed to teach students effective strategies for communicating their science to broader public audiences, using hands-on approaches.
