Announcement #2: Dr. Dong's Final Exam Review Session: Dr. Dong's final exam review session will be held on Friday, 12/9 from 10-11am in Bus 201. The review session will be recorded and posted online immediately after the review session. The review packet for the review session is available here.
Announcement #3: Another Final Exam Review session opportunity: Ayesha, a Chem 10Supplemental Instruction leader, is offering a Final Review exam session on Saturday, December 10thfrom 9:00 am - 1:00 pm in SCI 140. She will be covering a final exam review packet. If you want the packet, you need to e-mail her to let her know you will be coming and she will e-mail you the packet of problems. Ayesha's e-mail is hamid_ayesha@student.smc.edu. You must tell her you are coming BEFORE Wednesday, December 14.
Announcement #3: How do I study for the Final? A good way to study is to do practice problems. You can review the practice problems sent out in the previous exam review packets, as well as the final exam review packet. All the review packets are available here. The recordings of all the review sessions are available here.
Another good way of studying is to review your old exams that were passed back to you. The solutions to each of those exams were sent out to you by e-mail, but can also be downloaded all in one place here.
Announcement #4: Information about the final exam
Final Exam for Sections 1373 and 1374 is Tuesday, Dec 13 from 3:30 to 6:30pm
Final Exam for Sections 1353 and 1354 is Wednesday, Dec 14 from 8 to 11am.
The Final Exam will be worth 110 points. There are two parts to the final:
- Part #1: Free Response section (80 points) - this part will consist of about 3-4 pages of free response questions written by me (same style, same difficulty as what you have already been encountering). You will have 90 minutes for this section.
- Part #2: Chem 10 Department Final (worth 30 points) - this part will have 30 questions and each question will be worth 1 point each; all Chem 10 students regardless of instructor are taking the same exam. You will have 80 minutes for this section
So in total, you will basically have roughly 1.5 hours for each section of the exam with a 10 minute break in the middle.
We will discuss this more in class, but just wanted you to have this information in writing first.
I will need to cancel office hours for tomorrow (Monday) - office hours will resume regularly for the rest of the week. Keep in mind that this Friday there will be a Final Exam review session from 10 to 11am in Bus 201. Normal office hours will then be 11am to noon in the Science LRC conference room. (It currently looks like there is another group that has Bus 201 reserved from 11am to noon - if it turns out the room is available after our review session ends, we will just have office hours in the same location as the review session).
My last official day of office hours this semester will be next Monday, Dec. 12th
Dear class,
Here is an opportunity to get 3 points of extra credit that should take you no more than 5 minutes to do. In order to get the points, you will need to finish taking this survey BY THE END OF THIS WEEK.
In an effort to improve the course for the future, I'd like your anonymous feedback on this Chem 10 class. You will get 3 points of EXTRA CREDIT for taking this survey online. To get the points, print out the confirmation sheet that shows up after you finish submitting the survey and turn it into me anytime during lecture/lab by the end of this week. This confirmation sheet won't contain any identifying information so your confidentiality will be preserved. I am looking for your honest feedback about what you liked and didn't like about the course.
