Medication Policy
District-approved, Oral, Nonprescription Medication: (all medications provided by the parent)
Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) -- ibuprofen can be the only active ingredient
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) -- acetaminophen can be the only active ingredient
TUMS
Benadryl -- diphenhydramine can be the only active ingredient
First Aid Topical Medications Maintained in the Clinic
Standing orders from the District's Medical Advisor permit each clinic to stock and use as needed:

Aquaphor
Antibacterial Liquid Soap
Bactine
Benadryl Cream or Spray
Blistex/Carmex
Burn Ointment/Gel
Hand Sanitizer
Caladryl
Calamine Lotion
Contact Lens Cleaning Solution
Contact Lens Saline Solution
Cortisone Cream
Eye Wash (tap water flush)
Eye Wash Isotonic Solution
Glucose Gel (ONLY for students diagnosed with Diabetes)
Glucose tablets (ONLY for students diagnosed with Diabetes)

Emergency Protocol
Protocols established by the District’s Medical Advisor are available on request from the school nurse. Please contact your school nurse with any questions. The following may be used to assist students in an emergency situation -- if used, 911 will be called:
AEDs
Epi-Pens
Emergency Albuterol inhaler with spacer
NOTES:
Parent/Guardian supplies all medications
A completed and signed PARENTS REQUEST FOR ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION BY SCHOOL PERSONNEL form must accompany medication

Parent should bring age-appropriate medication to the school nurse in the original, properly labeled container; expired medications cannot be administered
The school nurse may give up to 10 doses of the above-listed district approved OTC medications
After 10 doses have been administered, the parent/guardian will be notified that a physician's note is needed to continue to administer that medication to the student
All Other Non-prescription Medications (all medications supplied by parent):
Must be accompanied by a physician's note
Medications must also be unexpired and in the original container and properly labeled
A completed and signed PARENTS REQUEST FOR ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION BY SCHOOL PERSONNEL form must accompany medication
Parent/Guardian should bring the medication to the school nurse
Prescription Medications (all medications supplied by parent):
All prescription medication that cannot be scheduled for other than school hours may be given at school.
A completed and signed PARENTS REQUEST FOR ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION BY SCHOOL PERSONNEL form must accompany medication
Medication should be in the form prescribed by the child's physician (if the dose is a half of a tablet, please send in the medication already halved)
Parent/Guardian must bring the medication to the school nurse.
The medication must be in the original container and must be properly labeled.
Upon Completion of Prescription or Leftover Medications:
Must be picked up by Parent/Guardian by last day of school or it will be disposed of according to FISD policy via an authorized medical waste management contractor
